Q: Introduce yourself!
Hello! I'm Cindy and I've been in church for about 5 years, which happens to match my time in the financial advisory world. My former colleague Ziyi is the one who brought me to church!
Currently, I serve in the Others ministry, where I work alongside a dedicated team of passionate and idealistic individuals, on a mission to make fishers of men and boldly winning souls for Jesus!
Q: What is the story behind your business?
After burning out in early 2019, I made a dramatic shift away from my role as a social media lead, driven by a desire to escape the digital world despite years of experience and study. I even considered becoming a farmer—farming does seem noble, right? (Gardening is a hobby of mine, but that’s another story.)
I went all in on my plan: I resigned from my job, crossed “media” off my “List of Dream Jobs,” and secured a Working Holiday Visa for Australia. It was a bold move, but I soon realized I was just running away from my reality, convinced there was nothing left for me in Singapore. I’m sure God had a good laugh at my expense—yes, you silly 21-year-old Cindy.
Everything changed when I began sharing my “plans” with others. A mentor encouraged me to reflect on my true purpose, helping me realize that what I really wanted was to find my voice and make a meaningful impact. This revelation led me to an unexpected path—becoming a financial consultant.
As an introvert and behind-the-scenes creative, many people doubted my choice, questioning how I could “leave it all behind” for something so out of my comfort zone—or as they put it, “so not you.”
Yet, God guided me through each step with ease and favor. Even my prayer to pass all my exams on the first try within 2 weeks (sorry, God) felt like a miracle. So I pressed on and never looked back. Interestingly, when COVID-19 hit in 2020, I realized how fortunate I was not to be farming in a foreign country with only a few thousand dollars in my bank account. It was clear to me that it was God’s protection.
SP’s message during COVID about destruction being God’s redirection resonated deeply with me. My journey wasn’t glamorous, but God reconstructed my life, breaking down old walls and rebuilding me. I went from being hardened and fearful of relationships to someone who embraces working with and loving others. God truly flipped my script. If people are God’s business, then I want to be part of it. Is this you, Cindy? It’s got to be God. A huge thank you to SPs and leaders for your discipleship and for pointing me to God in every season. First a Christian, then a businessman.
Although my dream of being a farmer in Australia didn’t come to fruition, I’ve found a much more fulfilling life as a "farmer for souls", watering and sowing in the best church ever.
On a finance note, SP’s insight during Assemble 2022 had a profound impact on me and reshaped my perspective on my journey and the legacy I want to create through financial planning: "You don't retire, you refire." I’m here to redefine what living truly means. I want to be that journey buddy.
Q: Tell us something interesting about your business!
A third-degree referral became a client who later joined me at my first Christmas service at HOGC in 2019. This person then became my connect group mate and is now one of my trench buddies in this journey. Anything is possible.
